The school organised an E-Waste Collection Drive as part of its initiative to promote environmental sustainability and create awareness about the responsible management of electronic waste. The activity aimed to educate students and teachers about the harmful effects of improper disposal of electronic waste and encourage everyone to adopt environmentally responsible practices.
As part of the initiative, the school conducted an online meeting with the teachers to explain the purpose of the drive and coordinate the collection process. Teachers were briefed about the importance of e-waste management and were encouraged to motivate students to participate actively. The students were also informed about the different types of electronic waste that could be collected, such as damaged electronic accessories, old cables, chargers, keyboards, computer peripherals, and other unusable electronic items. The student were also shown a PPt on E-Waste Management. Peer Educators and student counsel members also took out a rally to raise awareness about E-waste Management.
Students enthusiastically participated in the drive by bringing e-waste materials from their homes. They were encouraged to check their homes for unused or damaged electronic items that were no longer required and bring them to school for proper disposal. The collected e-waste was deposited in a designated black bin kept within the school premises. This systematic collection process helped ensure that the waste was kept separately from regular household and school waste. Teacher and staff were not far behind and participated actively in auditing their homes and collecting E-waste and depositing the same at the collection point.
The activity provided students with a practical understanding of the importance of waste segregation and responsible disposal. They learned that electronic waste should not be simply thrown into regular garbage because it may contain substances that can be harmful to the environment if handled improperly. Through this initiative, students understood that responsible e-waste management can help reduce pollution, conserve valuable resources, and support recycling.
After the collection process was completed, the accumulated e-waste was weighed and recorded. The collected materials were then handed over to an authorised e-waste collection organisation for appropriate recycling and safe disposal. This ensured that the electronic waste was handled through proper channels instead of being dumped or disposed of irresponsibly.
The E-Waste Collection Drive also encouraged students to reflect on their own consumption habits and the importance of reducing unnecessary electronic waste. The initiative highlighted the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and demonstrated how small efforts by individuals can contribute to environmental protection.
The activity was an excellent learning experience for the students and helped strengthen their sense of environmental responsibility. It encouraged active participation, teamwork and awareness about sustainable living. The school community came together with a common objective of keeping the surroundings clean and reducing the harmful impact of electronic waste on human health, animal life and mother Earth.
Overall, the E-Waste Collection Drive was a meaningful and successful Eco Club activity. It helped students understand the importance of proper e-waste management and inspired them to become responsible citizens who care for the environment. By promoting responsible collection, recycling and disposal of electronic waste, the school took a positive step towards building a cleaner, healthier and greener future.
