The Radio Mirchi workshop was held on 4 April, 2024. This year TIMES NIE asked the school to nominate one student from secondary and a teacher to attend the workshop. Sruthi Nori of X I, CBSE was nominated to attend the same. The workshop provided a great platform for developing creativity while giving an opportunity to interact with peers.
The three-hour session was quite interactive and engaging. The mentor, Vaishali started off the session explaining the basics of a radio, how a radio works, and then went in depth on content creation and everything that goes on behind the scenes of a broadcast. She explained the roles of each department at a radio station- programming, IT, tech, copywriting, etc. She spoke about the scheduling of each session, every team member’s contribution to the project, the process of brainstorming and the execution. The participants learnt the technical names of every component of a radio broadcast and understood the running of radio broadcasts.
After this, they were taken on a tour around the studio which was quite an exciting experience. Finally, the participants met two famous radio jockeys from Radio Mirchi- RJ Sweta and RJ Shadab, who spoke about their role in production and their background work before beginning a program.
Having the opportunity to meet peers eager to share their thoughts, ideas, and gain valuable information about radios, as well as the chance to talk to RJs and gain an understanding of the industry, was very insightful as it exposed the participants to a skill set required to survive in a world where new ideas arise with every passing minute. The team also received certificates of participation from Radio Mirchi.
