On June 12 2024, Peer Educators from class X CBSE, came together once more to raise awareness about forests and water conservation as a two-pronged action plan.
First, they went from class to class educating their peers about the theme for International Day of Forests 2024- Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World. They talked about the International Day of Forests, celebrated worldwide on 21 March every year, aimed at raising awareness of the importance of all types of forests. They emphasized the need to harness technological developments to address the developing danger of deforestation, habitat degradation and climate change.
Later, the Peer Educators spread awareness on water conservation by campaigning for sustainable management of freshwater resources. Visiting the classes, they spoke about the theme of World Water day 2024, ‘Leveraging Water for Peace’, which is aimed at raising awareness and inspiring action to tackle the water and sanitation crisis. They highlighted the importance of fresh water, clean drinking water and how it is also vital for sanitation and hygiene. The peers discussed the fundamental problem of increasing demand for a limited resource and how it can only be addressed by more efficient use of water. Waste-water recycling, capturing rainwater, more efficient irrigation techniques, reforestation and being careful with how we use water in our own lives, were some of the solutions that the students came up with.
Both the campaigns were well received and the students participated in the discussions with high enthusiasm.
