During the summer break, Shivea Dev Varma of class XII, Commerce stream, attended an enriching four-day media and filmmaking workshop from 27 April to 30 April 2026, which was organized by The Times of India (TOI) Student Edition, in collaboration with the Annapurna College of Film and Media.
This workshop was attended by many students across various schools in Hyderabad. The first three days of the workshop were held at the Annapurna campus and featured a balanced, dual-segment curriculum consisting of 1.5 hours dedicated to print journalism with a TOI editor and 1.5 hours focused on media production with college faculty. Over the first two days, the participants were engaged in insightful, informative sessions regarding news editing and editorial ethics, alongside a specialized masterclass with a senior head at Annapurna who taught them about "picture perspective" and visual composition. On the third day, the participants collaborated in teams to design a custom newspaper, followed by an extensive guided tour of the campus studio facilities to explore professional shooting stages, sets, and the physical elements of filmmaking.
The final day of the workshop took learning outside the classroom with an experiential field visit to the official TOI Printing Press in Hyderabad. This press visit provided an eye-opening, behind-the-scenes look at the technical mechanics of newspaper printing and its elements. The entire four-day program concluded with a distribution ceremony where all participants were awarded certificates of completion. Overall, the experience was incredibly engaging, memorable, and informative, offering valuable real- world exposure to journalism and cinema.
